Gillian McAllister’s Wrong Place Wrong Time opens with every parent’s nightmare: a mother watches her teenage son commit a shocking act of violence right outside their home. But instead of moving forward, time begins to move backward. Each morning, she wakes up one day earlier, forced to retrace the steps that led to the tragedy. As she moves further into the past, she uncovers hidden connections, buried truths, and the fragile threads that bind her family together. What begins as a gripping mystery becomes a profound exploration of fate, choice, and the lengths a mother will go to protect her child.
I gave this novel five stars because it was, quite simply, everything I want a book to be. It’s emotionally riveting from the very first page, pulling you into the raw panic, love, and desperation that drive this mother's journey. The suspense is relentless, but never cheap; every reveal feels earned, every shift in perspective deepens the story rather than distracting from it. McAllister’s command of the time‑reversal structure is astonishing — it’s intricate without ever feeling confusing, and the pacing is so tight that you’re compelled to keep turning pages long after you meant to stop.
What elevates the novel even further are the characters, who feel fully realized, flawed, and achingly human. Their motivations make sense, their relationships carry real weight, and their emotional arcs land with impact. The story is clever, but it’s also deeply heartfelt, and that combination makes it unforgettable. For me, Wrong Place Wrong Time was a perfect reading experience — suspenseful, beautifully structured, and resonant in all the ways that matter. It’s the kind of novel that lingers long after you close the final chapter.
