Shea Collins is a true crime blogger who gets more than she bargained for while interviewing the woman acquitted of two cold case murders. Beth Greer agrees to speak with Shea for reasons that Shea doesn't completely recognize as right. The allure of learning the truth about the cases from Beth herself is too big of a break to resist, but Shea can't help but wonder if she is making friends with a cold-blooded murder or if there are other, much more sinister, dangers lurking within the walls of the Greer Mansion.
Golly, I love me a good ghost story. Almost as much as I love me a good murder mystery. (True crime for life!) So, for the greater part of this read, I LOVED it. The drama. The snark. The creep-factor. All so much fun.
Until the climax. Usually, the climax is where it all falls into place, right? This was such a perplexing end to a book. It felt too neat, too tidy, and the bow tied around everything conveniently lacked explanation about the paranormal subplot. Regardless, a super strong read that I very much recommend.
I love supporting local, independent, women-owned, and BIPOC bookstores. If you are interested in purchasing a copy of The Book of Cold Cases, may I encourage you to consider buying here? Bookshop (dot) org ensures that every purchase supports local and independent bookstores. Thank you!
